Dr. Huesmann obtained his MD/PhD from the Medical Scholars Program at University of Illinois in Urbana. His PhD in neuroscience focused on synaptic changes during memory formation in the song bird brain. He then completed a residency in Neurology at the Partners program (Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), Brigham and Womens Hospital (BWH), Harvard Medical School (HMS)) in Boston. He then did a two year epilepsy fellowship at MGH/HMS combined wiht a research post-doc continuing synaptic research. He came back to Illinois to start an epilepsy center at Carle Foundation hospital in 2013. While starting this, he also opened a research lab on campus and the Beckman Inst focusing on MRI development to assess synaptic changes.
