Presentation Description / Summary: In this session, the presenter will instruct on the common measures applied to equine radiographic myelograms to determine spinal cord compression, and the supporting evidence in the literature. This will be overlaid with our institutional experiences associating these measures with selection of surgical sites in ataxic horses. Problems that remain unanswered in accurate determination of spinal cord compression sites in ataxic horses will be presented for discussion.
Learning Objectives:
On completion, attendees will have enhanced knowledge of common measurement variables applied to equine radiographic myelograms and their potential pitfalls
2. On completion, attendees will have a suite of 'best practices' for performing equine radiographic myelograms, and an understanding of common complications that may require specific treatment
On completion, attendees will more fully appreciate the limitations of radiographic myelograms in determining surgical site selection in horses with compressive spinal ataxia, and complications that can arise from this surgery
