Presentation Description / Summary: This session will provide a review of hemodynamic support of the critically ill large animal, with a focus on inopressor therapy in an intensive care setting. The body of evidence for the use of these therapies in veterinary and human medicine will be reviewed, and case examples will be presented covering equine and farm animal species. Finally, the session will cover ongoing research investigating hemodynamics and cardiac performance in response to inotropic support in horses.
Learner Outcomes: 1) Recognizing indications and options for hemodynamic support in large animals 2) Understanding the current recommendations in human critical care for inopressor support and their translation to veterinary species 3) Awareness of ongoing research efforts focused on hemodynamic support of equine patients
