Presentation Description / Summary: An interactive case review aimed at large animal residents and large animal general practitioners, working through four surprising and unique diagnoses made from seemingly commonplace presentations. This interactive session highlights, that while we are taught when we hear hoofbeats, to think of horses, not zebras, that sometimes the unusual or obscure diagnosis is correct. This presentation aims to encourage audience participation in a rounds-style session, highlighting the tell-tale features of each case that might inspire a clinician to dig deeper and pursue further diagnostics.
Learning Objectives:
Review common and uncommon differentials for common emergency presenting complaints
Review and reinforce diagnostic approaches to common equine presentations
Discuss individual approaches to cases in a group-learning environment
