Presentation Description / Summary: Transseptal puncture (TSP) is an interventional technique of emerging importance in small animal medicine, but description and experience with the technique is lacking. This workshop will provide participants with the necessary background knowledge to perform TSP in small animals. Anatomy, imaging, needle shaping, catheter manipulations and potential complications will all be discussed. A limited number of participants will be able to perform needle shaping following the discussion to provide some experience with the technique.
Learner Outcomes: 1) Able to identify appropriate imaging to allow successful transseptal puncture 2) Able to perform appropriate needle shaping to allow successful transseptal puncture 3) Able to identify and mitigate potential complications of transseptal puncture
Learning Objectives:
Able to identify appropriate imaging to allow successful transseptal puncture
Able to perform appropriate needle shaping to allow successful transseptal puncture
Able to identify and mitigate potential complications of transseptal puncture
