Presentation Description / Summary: The presentation will define what is meant by urine microbiome, the effect of different urine collection methods, how we came to find that a previously sterile site is not sterile, which organisms are present in humans, dogs and cats, where the organisms reside, what we know about "good guys" vs. "bad guys", what we know about dysbiosis in the urinary tract and potential therapies to manipulate the urine microbiome.
Learner Outcomes: 1. To define the term urine microbiome 2. To discuss the influences in collection method and urobiome differences between humans, dogs and cats. 3. To discuss urine dysbiosis and understand the possible role in common diseases in dogs and cats.
