Presentation Description / Summary: Classifications of myocardial injury (MI) and when to suspect a critically ill equine patient has MI will be presented. The ECG and echocardiographic abnormalities, management and cardiac outcomes in these horses along with how to interpret serial troponin evaluations will be discussed. Case examples will be presented. Comparison with the types and outcomes of myocardial injury in human patients will be made.
Learner Outcomes: 1. Recognize myocardial injury in critically ill horses. 2. Understand how to apply and interpret diagnostic and monitoring tools. 3. Gain exposure to comparative issues in human myocardial injury.
