Presentation Description / Summary: Persistent hyperinsulinaemia (HI) is present in large subset of equine patients suffering from equine metabolic syndrome. Multiple mechanisms might be involved. In this observational study we aimed to investigate the role of hepathic insulin clearence in persistently hyperinsulinaemic horses. Moreover we sought to evaluate whether metabolic associated fatty liver dysfunction was associated with reduced insulin clearence.
Learner Outcomes: - Insights into pathophysiology of insulin clerence - Use of multiple laboratories techniques to assess insulin clearence in horses liver samples - Valuable suggestions for future research efforts
Learning Objectives:
1. Describe the role of hepathic insulin clerence in the development of hyperinsulinaemia
2. Conduct/replicate laboratory techniques used to evaluate insulin clearence on frozen liver tissue
3. Appreciate the complexity of the topic and the limitations to our current understanding of this disease
