Presentation Description / Summary: Puppies and kittens are not just small adults! From birth through the neonatal and infant periods (2-6 weeks), the physiology and normal behaviors of pediatric patients change significantly and differ from adults. These differences can make treating pediatric patients a challenge. This session will use case-based examples to explore the unique physiology, diagnostic challenges, and appropriate treatment for pediatric patients, focusing on patients from birth to 6 weeks old.
Learner Outcomes: By the end of this session, attendees should be able to advise owners on appropriate neonate care and monitoring, recognize normal/abnormal physical examination and vital signs, and learn practical tips and tricks for dealing with sick pediatric patients.
