The lecture provides insights into the actual situation of Bornavirus encephalitides across mammalian species, the historical perception on BoDV role in staggering disease in cats, the difference made by metagenomics sequencing and the current state of Rustrelavirus surveillance in Europe. It highlights the pathohistological specificies of neuronotropic viruses, in general, and BoDV and RusV, in particular, as well as our understanding on to their immunopathology.
Learning Objectives:
To learn about the pathobiology of BoDV and RusV infections, hypotheses on infection routes and risk factors associated with their reservoir hosts.
To learn about targeted and untargeted diagnostic modalities and algorithms in the work-up of suspected viral encephalitides.
To be able to apply biosafety measures when handling samples of animals infected with potential human pathogens.
