Kelso had an extensive bout of anorexia leading up to a foreign body removal with a bowel resection, but remained inappetant as his veterinary team worked to understand the delay in his recovery. This case report showcases how utilizing a CVT to assist in placement of an esophagostomy tube, monitor the reintroduction of nutrients, and provide the owner with education to continue the patient’s assisted nutrition at home can add an additional level of care while supporting a critical case through recovery.

Understand when to advocate for nutritional intervention, and how to appropriately counsel owners when a feeding tube is necessary
Recognize if a patient is at risk of refeeding syndrome and demonstrate proper monitoring for this condition.
