Routine urinalysis does not involve quantitative analysis of urine electrolytes or osmolality. However, such analysis can provide essential clues to the diagnosis and management of electrolyte and endocrine disorders. This lecture will discuss urine chemistry parameters and their interpretation and focus on clinical syndromes where such testing provides maximal utility.
Learning Objectives:
Understand the relationship of urine electrolytes to fluid balance and renal function.
Become more comfortable with the interpration of urine electrolytes, osmolality, and fractional excretion tests.
Be able to recognize cases where urine chemistry testing may be beneficial and become comfortable in interpretin their results.
