During this session, we will present several cases of equine surgical colic and discuss postoperative management strategies from both an internal medicine specialist and equine surgeon. We will discuss the collaborative approach to management of surgical colics and recent advances in the literature.

Learning Objectives:

  • Upon completion, participants will be able to describe the risk factors associated with surgical site infection in cases of equine surgical colic
  • Upon completion, participants will be able to describe the current thoughts on perioperative antibiotic use in cases of equine surgical colic
  • Upon completion, participants will be able to list prognostic indicators that are associated with outcome in cases of equine surgical colic
