Throughout this session, we will focus on the first 48 hours of a large animal patient's life. The aim of the session is to cover the following subjects:
- setting up supplies, receiving area and stall to receive a neonatal patient and their dam (including oxygen, colostrum, plasma transfusion, emergency drugs and supplies for most common procedures)
- what is neonatal resuscitation, how many people do you need to do proper CPR, how to best prep your team and how to achieve a step by step coordinated and efficient resuscitation
- highlights of a LA neonatal physical examination, common LA neonatal diseases and their treatment/ prognosis, main risk factors for developping these diseases and how to best prevent them in the NICU

Learning Objectives:

  • Upon completion, participant will be able to prepare a list of adequate supplies for LA neonatal resuscitation; including oxygen and plasma transfusion set-up, and stall set up in NICU (including for the dam).
  • Upon completion, participant will be able to define roles within the neonatal resuscitation team and conduct a step by step coordinated resuscitation.
  • Upon completion, participant will be able to conduct a neonate's physical examination, list the main risks and diseases the neonate is at risk of and how to prevent them.
