Presentation Description / Summary: Use of pedicle screws and rods (PSF) is becoming more accessible for use in small animals. However, planning this surgery requires a thorough understanding of the principles of pedicle screw fixation. Proper planning is essential for correct application of this fixation technique. Invariably less than optimal placement of implants will occur with use of this type of system. This session will discuss applications of the PSF system. It will discuss planning surgeries and possible problems encountered. The session will also explain methods for avoiding and overcoming problems encountered with PSF application.
Learner Outcomes: 1. Following this discussion the attendee will understand possible uses of the PSF system. 2. This attendee will gain an understanding for methods for planning a surgery with the PSF system. 3. The audience will understand possible complications encountered and ways to correct these problems.
Learning Objectives:
Following this discussion the attendee will define possible uses and applications of the PSF system.
The attendee will the ability to plan a surgery with the PSF system.
The participant will define possible complications encountered and ways to correct these problems.
