Sharanne is Professor of Equine Internal Medicine at Charles Sturt University (Australia). She completed a residency and Masters in Equine Medicine and Surgery at the University of Queensland, and a PhD at the University of Sydney investigating the development of pleuropneumonia in horses. Upon completion of her PhD, Sharanne worked in equine private and university practice in Perth for 7 years, before accepting post-doctoral and teaching positions at Murdoch University. Joining CSU in 2006, Sharanne completed specialist qualifications in Equine Medicine (Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in 2009 and Diplomate of the European College of Equine Internal Medicine in 2023), and has worked in the Veterinary Clinical Centre at CSU since its opening in 2010. With more than 80 peer reviewed publications, her research interests have focused on equine neonatology, respiratory disease and pharmacology. She has served as Associate Head of the School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences at CSU (2017-2020), and on the Board of Examiners for the Australian New Zealand College of Veterinary Science (ANZCVS, 2012-2021), including as Assistant Chief Examiner (Exams). She was awarded the Meritorious Service Award by the ANZCVS in 2018, and the Equine Veterinarians Australia Award for Excellence in the Equine Veterinary Field in 2019.
