The session will review the currently available methods to diagnose and manage myeloma related disorders including multiple myeloma, solitary plasma cell tumors, and immunoglobulin secreting B cell lymphomas. Discussed methods will include cytology, histopathology, immunocytochemistry and immunohistochemistry, PCR for antigen receptor rearrangement (PARR), flow cytometry, serum and urine protein electrophoresis, and immunofixation. The strengths and limitations of the techniques will be discussed and demonstrated using a case-based approach.
