Presentation Description / Summary: This presentation will describe the methods used to evaluate right ventricular diastolic function in dogs with pulmonary stenosis, an advanced echocardiographic technique not commonly utilized in routine clinical evaluation. Additionally, this presentation will detail the results of a recently completed, ACVIM-funded research project comparing right ventricular diastolic function and circulating concentrations of galectin-3 (a marker of myocardial fibrosis) in dogs with pulmonary stenosis to healthy control dogs.
Learner Outcomes: 1. Right ventricular diastolic function can be assessed in dogs with pulmonary stenosis 2. Dogs with pulmonary stenosis have right ventricular diastolic dysfunction and elevated levels of galectin-3, suggesting the presence of myocardial fibrosis
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participants will be able to apply echocardiographic techniques to assess right ventricular diastolic function in dogs
Upon completion, participants will be able to establish how to assess for the presence of myocardial fibrosis in dogs with pulmonary stenosis
