'Wonky Legs': The Carpal Hyperextension Phenomenon in Nigerian Dwarf Goats

Presentation Description / Summary: This session will describe a novel disorder plaguing America's most populous goat breed, the Nigerian Dwarf. This condition is recognized to be prevalent in the breed and affects animals as early as 3 months old, resulting in lameness, limb deformity and loss of production. The primary presenter has evaluated a large number of affected animals and will present a thorough clinical description of the disorder, related imaging findings (ultrasound, radiographs, MRI) and histopathology findings, using photos, videos and diagnostic imaging. The co-presenter will discuss pedigree links and genetic information we have currently generated from these animals, to help veterinarians in recognition and decision-making for this disorder.
