Presentation Description / Summary: A brief review of the concept of “normal” ranges and the dangers of simply focusing on labwork that is “flagged” as abnormal will be followed by a case-based presentation that will provide multiple examples of how important clinical information can be gleaned from “normal” bloodwork and urine testing.
Learner Outcomes: -Understanding the importance of thoroughly reviewing all your blood and urine results and avoiding the temptation of just noting those that are abnormal. -By extracting more information from your diagnostics, the veterinarian will be able to provide more cost-effective care and improve patient outcomes
Learning Objectives:
more thoroughly and critically interpret their labwork and identify disease states and conditions that may not have been readily apparent on initial review of their lab results.
realize that a "normal" value on labwork may still be abnormal in certain diseases states
Improve patient care by maximizing the value of diagnostic testing and learning how to integrate history and physical exam findings with lab results to more quickly obtain diagnoses and to do so in a cost-effective fashion.
