Presentation Description / Summary: The goal of this presentation is to provide an overview of equine nutrition, from fetus to adult. It will be focused on energy metabolism, covering different nutrients and unique aspects of the equine gastrointestinal tract, as well as other factors related to energy homeostasis in health (including hormones, enzymes, the microbiota, and the environment).
Learner Outcomes: List key aspects of equine energy regulation from the fetal to the neonatal and adult periods List endocrine factors involved in equine energy homeostasis Describe nutrient requirements and their clinical relevance in the horse Describe the role of the gastrointestinal microbiota in equine nutrition and its implications
