Presentation Description / Summary: Conversations about humane euthanasia are emotional for the family — they are also emotional and difficult for the veterinary care team. We all bring our personal history with us to each conversation and end of life situation. For clients, they bring all aspects of the Family Quality of Life (FQoL) including experiences with pets, with the loss of loved ones and veterinarians and humane euthanasia. In this presentation we will discuss how to effectively approach sensitive conversations with owners and fellow staff, and describe how to ease the stress of difficult medical euthanasia circumstances.
Learning Objectives:
Monitor non-verbal communication signals and react to non-verbal clues from clients
Exchange information with clients and each other without judgment, confusion or misunderstanding
Partner with pet owners to offer compassionate end of life care for pets
