Presentation Description / Summary: This presentation will give an overview of bile acids including what they are and their role in cell signaling pathways. Bile acids are a diverse group of molecules with different biological functions including roles in cell signaling pathways for inflammation, glucose homeostasis, and gastrointestinal function. Research investigating alterations of individual bile acid fractions in relation to equine metabolic syndrome and equine glandular gastric disease will be presented and discussed. Potential future directions for research in this area and how bile acids could benefit clinical practice will be examined.
