This session will explore the role and importance of clinical faculty in academic veterinary medicine. Clinical faculty play a vital role in training DVM students, residents, and interns how to provide excellent, scholarly based clinical care in addition to instruction on navigating client communications and interpersonal skills. These roles among others, as well as the benefits of clinical track faculty in academic medicine, will be explored during this session. This session will also investigate the potential challenges that these faculty may encounter in a traditional university system. Furthermore, we will explore ways in which academic departments can support and promote the professional development and retention of clinical track faculty.
