Until recently, most of the cannabinoid applications in cancer patients have been focused on palliative uses such as antiemetics, reduction in pain, and increase in appetite. The potential value of these compounds as direct antineoplastic agents has led to more research in human and companion animal medicine. We will discuss the antineoplastic mechanisms of cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids and review the veterinary cell culture studies.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participants will be able to identify major antineoplastic mechanisms of cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids.
Participants will be able to identify the most common reasons that cannabis is utilized in palliative oncologic care.
Participants will be familiar with veterinary specific cell culture studies.
